How Distance Learning Works
Our Higher Education Certificate in Health & Social Care is completed through our online interactive learning management system.
As our learner, you will be issued with an email to create your own password to access your course. All materials such as course notes, supplementary reading documentation, online videos, and assignment briefs are contained in folders within each module. Each module has a site structured around a sequence of weekly topics. Each topic contains a lecture, typically a series of slides and accompanying audio recording, supported by guidance on key learning outcomes, self-assessment questions, and links to core and additional readings and other resources. You will also have access to our online student community and discussion forums to foster communication with our other students to discuss and resolve issues related to your studies.
Introduction to the Certificate
The HE Certificate in Health & Social Care is offered in collaboration with the University of Sunderland.
To obtain your Higher Education Certificate in Health & Social Care 120 credits (6 modules) are required.
When you successfully complete the HE Certificate you will be better placed to gain employment in a health or social care role, such as Health Service management, social work, teaching, palliative care, nursing, drug and alcohol work, community and youth work, mental health and counseling work, working in caring for the elderly, with children, and with those with special educational needs. You also have the opportunity to consider continuing your studies to the HE Diploma in Health & Social Care.
You also have the opportunity to consider continuing your studies to the BSc (Hons) Health & Social Care Degree.
Entry Requirements
Standard Entry Route
To apply for the HE Certificate in Health and Social Care via our Standard Entry Route you must have the following qualifications as a minimum:
- 104 UCAS points from a minimum of two A-levels, or equivalent; along with three passes at GCSE grade C or above which must include Maths and English.
- If English is not your first language, IELTS (academic) 6.0 or equivalent. If you do not hold an IELTS or equivalent qualification, we require students to pass an English test.
Non-Standard Entry Route
To apply for the HE Certificate in Health and Social Care via our Non Standard Entry Route you may be considered:
- If you hold a Level 3 qualification or higher.
- Your vocational training.
- Your work experience.
- If English is not your first language, IELTS (academic) 6.0 or equivalent. If you do not hold an IELTS or equivalent qualification, we require students to pass an English test.
You will be required to prepare a personal statement for Non Standard Entry.
